PETA vs Leaping Bunny: Cruelty-Free Certifications

PETA vs leaping bunny certifications

Leaping Bunny vs PETA certification, which one should you use for your cruelty-free beauty shopping?

Both Leaping Bunny and PETA certify products for being animal-friendly, but is one really better than the other?

Turns out, the answer is yes.

So which is it? Read below to find out!

Leaping Bunny vs PETA: Which Should You Trust?

leaping bunny vs peta 3

Both organizations have a list of cosmetic companies that produce cruelty-free products. But one of them is certainly more powerful and more reliable.

You might have noticed that the brand list of Leaping Bunny is relatively smaller than PETA’s.

It is because, unlike PETA, they always require an agreement to make their independent audits for certification.

Cruelty-Free Movement History

The cruelty-free movement has been around for over a century! It goes way back to a social justice movement, which has now become a worldwide powerhouse to protect animals.

The movement started in 1898 by a powerful philanthropist and women rights campaigner Frances Power Cobbe. She made an organization to begin the studies of animal suffering.

Her movement took her to Europe, where she was traumatized. When witnessing all the cruelty that has been done to animals, she decided to speak about the issues and protect animal rights.

Having only one mission which is to protect animals from suffering, the movement became a huge success. Over the years, it has become a more powerful organization called Cruelty-free International.

Most Popular Cruelty-Free Logos

With the opening of many cruelty-free organizations, it is hard to distinguish the official ones from the fakes that are only working for their name. First things first, let’s see which are the most popular cruelty-free logos.

PETA Beauty Without Bunnies Certification

PETA cruelty-free bunny logo

The US-based cruelty-free organization PETA is one of the most well-recognized animal rights companies in the world. Like CCIC below, they use a bunny logo to signify that a product is cruelty-free.

In order to receive the certification, companies must pledge not to test on animals, use animal ingredients, or sell any products that have been tested on animals.

In other words, companies sign a statement promising that they’re cruelty-free. That’s pretty much it.

CCIC Leaping Bunny

leaping bunny logo

Next up, Leaping Bunny. This certification is issued by the Leaping Bunny Program, which is a joint program of the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

The Leaping Bunny Program has been in operation since 1998 and is responsible for certifying more than 1,700 companies.

Unlike PETA, their process is a bit more involved than just saying “we promise we don’t test on animals.”

Companies must meet (and actually prove that they meet) very strict standards AND recommit every single year.

Choose Cruelty-Free

This organization is lesser-known in the US, but very popular among Australian brands.

An interesting requirement of this organization is that the brands must not only meet all the criteria but also their parent companies must be cruelty-free.

Why are PETA and Leaping Bunny Authorities in the Field

With extensive experience in the industry and strong dedication, these two organizations are leaders in the cruelty-free field. Both companies provide strict requirements to the brands in order to get their logos.

If a brand is Leaping Bunny certified, you can be sure that neither they nor their suppliers test on animals at any stage.

Moreover, the brands that are Leaping Bunny certified cannot sell in Mainland China. However, this organization does not have a requirement for the parent companies.

So if you are a true cruelty-free pioneer, always double-check their list of cruelty-free brands to be 100% sure.

Being certified by PETA is much easier, but it does not mean that the organization is not reliable. The thing is that PETA only requires to submit the documents and wait for their approval.

They, of course, do thorough research about the accuracy of the documents. However, they do not handle additional independent audits to make sure that everything is legitimate.

So there is one thing you can be sure about with these two organizations. If you are looking for brands that are cruelty-free and find one that has at least one of the logos, you are safe!

A Quick Comparison Between Leaping Bunny and PETA

Ginger rabbit signifying cruelty-free no animal testing status

In the topics above, you have already found out that both companies have different certification standards the brands should meet. The most important one is, of course, is the animal testing policy.

If a brand wants its consumers to know that its products are cruelty-free, they can apply to PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program and get the certification after meeting all the criteria.

The Leaping Bunny Cruelty-free certification program is for companies that produce cosmetics, personal care, or household products in the US or Canada.

Brands can apply if they do not test on animals at any stage of production.

Applying for both programs is for free. However, if the brands want to get a licensed logo to have a cruelty-free status, an annual one-time fee must be made, either based on gross annual sales or a flat rate.

Stance on Cruelty-Free

Both companies have the same goal for the brands, to be 100% cruelty-free and make this world a better place for animals. However, there are small nuances that each organization requires.

Leaping Bunny requires the brand to avoid animal testings, as well as their suppliers, third parties, or parent companies.

Whereas, there are many PETA-approved brands that are from a not-cruelty-free parent company.

Another advantage of Leaping Bunny is that they require an independent audit from the brands that have applied for the certification. When in fact, PETA requires only written statements from the brand.

When applying for gaining the PETA logo, companies must not only forbid animal tests but also reject using any animal-derived ingredients like honey, beeswax, etc.

Leaping Bunny and PETA have several steps for certification. All brands that do not test on animals can apply for it and wait for the verification process to end to get the answer.

When applying for the certification, the brands must verify and provide documents that the products and their ingredients are not tested on animals neither by them, their suppliers, or manufacturers.

Moreover, Leaping Bunny notifies that brands must also agree to their own audits and be open to renewing commitments every year.

They also state that companies who sell their products in Mainland China might be removed from their program if they don’t provide a document stating that they are not testing on animals in this country.

PETA’s Beauty without Bunnies Program allows cosmetics brands to carry the logo of “Animal Test-Free” or “PETA Approved Global Animal Test Policy” after meeting some requirements.

The companies must not conduct, charge, pay for, or permit tests on animals at any point of ingredients and final product development.

They are also obliged to have contracts with their suppliers, confirming that the suppliers will never take any actions for tests on animals for the ingredients purchased by the company.

These statements are well presented on both organizations’ websites and show that their approach to animal welfare. Their Cruelty-free programs and certifications are truly something all brands should take.

#1 Burt’s Bees

Burt’s Bees brand is famous for its lip balms and skincare products around the world. Being approved by both organizations, you can be 100% sure that the products you purchase are cruelty-free.

I really love how they make products with natural ingredients and meet the gold standard of cruelty-free.

#2 Earth Harbor

This is another excellent brand that is 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Earth Harbor makes products not only for skin care but also for hair and body.

They also use natural ingredients such as sea salts, natural plant oils, etc., for their products. The Mermaid Milk is AMAZING!

#3 Beauty Without Cruelty

This brand is one of the most famous and first cruelty-free companies offering a wide variety of skincare, hair, and makeup products.

I have previously used their moisturizing cream for dry skin, and it gave great results. It is great to know that there are such companies in the market that do everything for us to get 100% cruelty-free products.

ACURE is cruelty-free, vegan, AND they also use organic fair-trade ingredients.

I love their Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream because it’s free of sulfates, parabens, petroleum, formaldehyde and mineral oil.

In my honest opinion, having a cruelty-free certification from any official organization is already great.

However, the gold standards for this matter are for sure Leaping Bunny and PETA approvals.

So when looking for cruelty-free brands, check if they are approved by any of these companies.

Cruelty-free cosmetics have become more interesting for consumers, and that is wonderful.

It is why many companies take action towards this cause, and more brands change their policies and apply for certification.

Trying a Mandala Nail Art Design at Home

a very detailed mandala nail art

Ever oogled over those incredible mandala nail art designs on Pinterest and thought, “if only I had time and money to go to the salon”?

Well, guess what?

You can totally pull off the look right at home, and we’re going to show you how!

Keep reading to learn about this nail art and techniques to recreate the look on your own.

How to Make a Mandala Nail Art Design at Home

Everyone has a saved folder full of nail art ideas, Am I right?

When looking for new nail art ideas, there are so many options to choose from.

Starting from French tips and simple indie nails and ending with beautiful designs like shapes, ombre nails, or even stickers.

The choices are endless, so there’s an idea for any nail type and length, but it all starts the same way: with prep.

Let’s take a closer look at how nail artists prep nails for the perfect manicure and nail art below.

1. Prep Your Hands for a Manicure

brushing and cleaning the nails before manicure

No matter you are heading to the salon or having your nails done at home, it is good to have your nails prepped. First things first, your nails should be cleaned with nail polish remover.

Even if you don’t have polish on your nails, cleaning them with a remover takes the excess oils and dirt off your nails. Washing your hands with soap water after the polish will allow you to have a ready surface.

To have softer and exfoliated skin, you can also use a scrub to remove dead skin cells from your hands. The skin of that part is very sensitive, hence, gently massage the scrub and wash it with lukewarm water.

After filing and buffing your nails, use orange sticks to push your cuticles back. Nail artists always make sure not to cut them as they help you keep the bacteria away from your nails.

Now that your hands are prepped, get ready to have your nails done with the design you chose.

2. Choose the Base Color for Your Nails

plain blue nails

The beautiful blue color is great for any season and makes a fabulous base for your mandala art.

Having a base coat before the color is essential as it prevents uneven application and chipping of your nails.

After applying the base coat, chill for a few minutes and continue with the color you chose.

After the first coat of this beautiful blue, leave your nails to dry for a few minutes and reapply the second coat if necessary. After having all your nails painted, the most exciting part starts!

3. It’s Nail Art Time!

making mandala nail art design using different nail polishes

Mandalas are very detailed nail designs to draw on nails. But they look so beautiful after seeing the final result.

Simple designs are easier to start with. As they are drawn by hand, the nail artists use brushes with slim tips to perfectly draw the circles and lines.

Having a simple black mandala design will give you more elegance to your nails. Just like the nail artist demonstrates, slim black circles and dots make a unique design.

It takes concentration, professionalism, and creativity to create such amazing nail art. After finishing the design, it is best to use a top coat to fix everything and give more shine to your nails.

Today, we’re discussing the best primer for acne prone skin.

I know how overwhelming it can be; any small mistake and your face is a hot mess.

You don’t have to do the hunting by yourself, let me help you.

I went through the trouble of testing different primers so that you don’t have to.

Check out my top picks on the below, then read on for my in-depth reviews.

5 Top Primers for Acne Prone Skin

Since the best primer for acne prone skin depends entirely on your budget and skin type, we covered a range of options for you below.

1. e.l.f Blemish Control Face Primer

After countless times of being told, ‘this product will not cause your skin any breakouts’ and ending up with a face full of acne, my priority is always something that won’t trigger my acne.

That’s why even after reading multiple reviews on Amazon, I still didn’t feel confident enough to buy this primer. I popped the question on a FB group, and a few members convinced me to go for it.

Am I disappointed, no? Do I recommend it? YES. Let me tell you why it’s my first choice.

Features & Attributes

It’s specifically designed for acne-prone skin. Although Elf has a variety of like ten primers, they manufactured one specifically for you. And that’s why it works.

Back to how it performs as a primer and its better features.

One, it leaves your skin smooth after application and allows you to apply makeup that lasts an entire day.

It saves you the time you have to excuse yourself to fix your makeup between meetings or dates.

It also dries and blends perfectly with your skin, making makeup application very easy by forming a base for the following products.

Well, I’m not going to lie, it’s going to be pretty messy in the evening when removing it, but it gets the job done.

e.l.f blemish control face primer also has powerful ingredients that help in controlling further skin breakout. The ingredients include; Vitamin E, Salicylic Acid, and tea tree.

Also, if you’re vegan, you’ll be happy to know e.l.f is a cruelty-free beauty brand

For best results, I recommend using a setting powder and a mattifying powder on top.

ELF best primer for acne prone skin 2

  • It’s vegan
  • It prevents further skin breakage and blemishes
  • It works with all skin types
  • Phthalates, Ethoxylate and triclosan-free
  • It leaves your skin smooth and moisturized
  • It’s lightweight
  • It spreads easily

  • You may need to use a setting powder for it to be effective
  • It’s not completely odorless, and some people have issues with the scent
  • It doesn’t have an SPF

Who needs this primer?

This primer works well for skin types. It’s also more beneficial to people who are looking for a primer they can use as a moisturizer.

I asked my friend to demonstrate how well it works on fair skin (where literally every bump and line shows up). She really LOVED how it not only evened out her skin but also smoothed out fine lines.

FYI, e.l.f is also great for vegans as it’s a cruelty-free beauty brand

2. SHILLS Moisturizing Invisible Foundation Primer

My first experience with Shills wasn’t outstanding. I had not researched the product, but I’ve used other Shill’s products before.

Long story short, I gave it a bad review, and then one user responded and told me I was using too much of the product.

And she was right; the glitch was on my end.

I changed my rating to a five-star, and now it’s one of my go-to primers.

Here is more about the product.

Features & Attributes

The freesia’s formula prepares your skin for makeup application by creating a smooth, canvas-like surface.

It creates a perfect base for makeup application so that  your make-up lasts the whole day. That’s without messing it and maintaining the first-application look.

The other great feature of Shills primer is its light texture.

The primer has a formula that enhances and moisturizes your skin. And that’s not all; it reduces the appearance of wrinkles, blur lines, and blemishes.

But that’s not what I loved most about the Shill’s primer; my favorite feature is the skin-tone correction.

If your forehead and other parts of your face have an entirely different tone, you know the struggle. The primer corrects your skin tone and protects your skin.

And if you have an oily-face, then you’ll be happy to know that this primer is oil-free. It doesn’t leave you feeling greasy or like a hot mess in hot temperatures.

Lastly, the primer has a brightening effect that fights the dullness and brightens your skin, leaving you with a radiant glow.

  • It moisturizes the skin
  • It brightens the skin, giving you a radiant glow
  • Soothes irritated skin
  • It helps fade blemishes and reduce the appearance of wrinkles
  • It corrects skin tone
  • It’s a 24-lasting primer

  • It has no SPF

Who needs the primer?

This primer is perfect for people with acne-prone oily skin. It protects your skin while ensuring that you don’t feel greasy all day.

3. W-Airfit Pore Primer

This is another good primer for acne-prone skin. I know there is a lot of backlash revolving around the W-Airfit Pore Primer, but my experience was different.

The benefits I got were exactly similar to what the seller promised, and I would definitely buy it again.

But anyway, enough with the justification, let’s see what the primer brings to the table.

Features & Attributes

The first great feature of the primer is that it can double as a foundation. So, it really makes your work easier on the days that you don’t feel like following your full makeup procedure.

The primer can also single-handedly brighten your skin, hide the large pores, and make the skin shiny and thin. It leaves a smooth surface for make-up allowing it to last all day.

The W- Airfit Pore Primer also helps hide the skin defectives by covering fine lines, wrinkles and reducing pores. The brightening skin feature also helps in decreasing the appearance of blemishes.

If you don’t want to apply make-up, you can apply the primer alone and enjoy a smooth, matte, and moisturized look all day.

The primer also has an oil moisturizing feature covering that prevents any excess sebum, allowing makeup to last longer.

It also has a deep-penetrating lightweight texture that keeps the skin hydrated and nourished, protecting it from drying. This explains why the primer works for both dry and oily skin.

  • Reduces the skin tone
  • It covers pores
  • It reduces the appearance the blemishes and wrinkles
  • It leaves your skin moisturized and hydrated
  • It works for all skin type

  • It has a smell chemical-like.

Who needs this primer?

This primer works best for people with dry and oily skin ( especially those struggling with acne). It also works well for those who want a primer that they can apply alone on lazy days.

4. Cherioll Makeup Primer

I’ll be honest with you; I didn’t buy this product, but I did my research extensively. And from what I gathered, it deserves a spot in every best primer for acne-prone skin list.

Katie says the product is very well priced, and she got more than she paid for.

“I bought Cherioll primer after one of my co-workers recommended it. When I saw the price ($15 at the time), I didn’t expect much. But it was amazing with my sensitive skin. And I’ve bought it several times since then, “Katie Said.

Let’s learn more about the primer.

Features & Attributes

Like other products I’ve recommended on this list, this primer works well for both dry and oily skin.

The primer has an alvory white that hides the skin, creating a perfect base for makeup application. It leaves the skin smooth and flawless. The silky base it creates helps your skin in fighting further breakup.

It also helps protect your skin against skin pollution issues such as UV rays, makeup pigments, facial burn, etc.

  • It lasts through sweat and humidity
  • You can wear it alone on days you don’t want to wear makeup
  • Protects your skin from environmental factors
  • It works for all skin types

  • After 13 hours, you may need to apply powder to avoid feeling greasy

Who needs this primer?

This primer is for anyone with acne-prone skin. And if you’re looking for a primer that will protect you from UV rays and other skin pollution problems, then this is your best option.

Keep in mind that this primer doesn’t exactly last for 24 hours, so if you’re looking for a primer that allows your make-up to last for that long, you’re better off with the first two recommendations.

5. Jolie Pore Perfecting Face Primer

The first thing I loved about the Jolie when it arrived was the packaging. It was pretty and exquisite.

But that’s not very helpful information if you’re looking for the best makeup primer for acne-prone skin, is it? I know.

So, let’s get to the serious part.

Features & Attributes

Like other primers, Jolie significantly reduces the visibility of your large pores. It also fills in the lines and wrinkles to give you very smooth and flawless skin.

And if you’re worried, you’ll end up with a greasy appearance; then you have nothing to worry about. Jolie Pore is non-greasy and oil-free. It absorbs oil and reduces pores.

Another great feature is that the primer is fragrance-free, which is perfect for those who prefer odorless products.

  • It’s fragrance-free
  • It’s oil-free
  • It’s paraben-free

  • It may not absorb oil very well at very high temperatures.

Who needs this primer?

This primer is for those looking for a budget-friendly face primer for acne-prone skin. It works well for all skin types so anyone can use it.

Primers for Acne FAQs

Here are questions that people ask regarding face primers for acne-prone skin.

Does primer make acne worse?

Yes, the wrong primers can worsen acne for people with sensitive skin. That said, primers are very critical in our morning makeup routine. They help create a smooth surface for makeup application, which allows our makeup to last all day.

What ingredients should you look for in your primer?

Some ingredients to look out for when looking for a primer for acne-prone skin include salicylic acid, tea tree oil, sodium hyaluronate, vitamin E, C, and A, retinol. They should be ingredients that nourish, hydrate, hide blemish and stop further skin breakout.

How do you apply primer on acne-prone skin?

1. Clean your face, pat it dry, and moisturize it. If you’re using a primer without sunscreen, apply sunscreen.
2. Put some primer on your hands, mix it with your fingers and then gently rub it on your face. Ensure you cover all areas, including your chin and forehead line.
3. Allow your skin to absorb the primer before applying the foundation

What are the best primers for sensitive skin?

If you have sensitive skin, always go for the primers for acne-prone skin because they have acne-fighting ingredients. This will prevent your skin from any further breakout.  If you have acne, you can use primers in place of moisturizers to avoid further breakage.

Final Words

Having an acne-prone face can make making up very difficult.

Personally, at some point in my life, I went all-natural for over a year. Was it because I hated makeup? No. I just got tired of all the products making my acne worse.

Then I decided I was done being scared and went on a hunt for the right products. And now I’m happy to know that not all products cause acne; some even stop it.

You just got to learn to pick up products that favor your skin type.

I hope you got a good primer for acne-prone skin from my review. What do you struggle most with when living with acne-prone skin?

How to Use Real Techniques Sponge

The Real Technique sponge perfectly blends liquid foundation as it has an excellent shape and texture.

It has a special shape, thanks to which you can blend different products on your face.

You can either use it to blend the foundation to your face, contour or cover blemishes.

The best thing is, that this miracle sponge gives you a smooth and perfectly blended complexion.

Is the Real Techniques Sponge Good?

a lady demonstrating how to use Real Techniques sponge pink miracle sponge

Apart from being affordable and well-blendable, there is one thing that this sponge is the best at.

Having a flat edge, with the RT Miracle Complexion sponge you can easily cover the larger areas of your face.

Another excellent advantage of this sponge is that it has a pointed tip, allowing you to blend every corner such as around your nose or hairline.

The tip also helps you to perfectly conceal under your eyes.

The round side of the sponge comes in handy when using a blush. It is ideal for cream blushes as it gives more control to your application and makes it easier to blend the pigment to your cheeks.

It surely has excellent advantages, which is why this sponge has become a staple tool for many makeup artists and makeup enthusiasts.

So let’s see how to use the Real Techniques sponge (AKA the RT Miracle Complexion Sponge) the right way.

Are You Supposed to Wet the Real Techniques Sponge?

This is a question that anyone has when wanting to use this sponge. And it entirely depends on the look you want to get after applying your foundation.

In case you are using a full coverage foundation and want to perfectly cover your face, it is best to use the sponge dry. It surely does help to cover your face without any spots.

For everyday makeup, dampen your beauty sponge in water, to get a more dewy and natural look.

Wet the sponge in the faucet till it doubles the size, then squeeze it a few times for a smooth foundation application.

I really like using this sponge wet, as it helps to absorb less product and gives a more natural look. You can use the concealer the same way and with just a few dabs, you will look flawless.

What is Real Techniques Makeup Sponge Made of?

different colors of miracle sponge

The Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge is made with vegan materials, making it a cruelty-free beauty brand.

The latex-free sponge has an antimicrobial composure and is made from polyurethane foam.

It will feel a little firm when dry, but as soon as you dampen it in water, you will immediately feel it softening and becoming more flexible.

Thoroughly cleaning it with soap water after every application will help you keep the sponge in the best shape.

And it is recommended to change your RT Miracle sponge every 30 days to avoid bacteria.

How Do You Use the Real Technique Miracle Sponge?

a simple lady using an RT miracle sponge for her make-up

Now we get to the heart of the matter: how to use Real Techniques sponge! The RT Miracle Sponge shows its best sides when used with a liquid or cream foundation.

Depending on how you want to use your beauty sponge, there are two ways to get the best outcomes.

To get a dewy look with glowing coverage, you can soak the sponge in water until it is completely wet.

Squeeze the excess water out by pressing the sponge a few times. I normally squeeze it out with a towel for the best results.

Use the flat surface of the sponge to apply the foundation. Gently dab the foundation on your skin with the wet sponge and get your preferred coverage by pressing the product with the flat side.

After applying the foundation you can use the pointed tip with a concealer to cover blemishes or dark circles under your eyes. Tap a few times with the tip and you will get a gorgeous look.

To perfectly blend the products, the dabbing technique is best. With bouncing motions dab the products instead of swirling the sponge onto your face.

For a more evening and full-coverage look, use the sponge with the same techniques without soaking it in water.

If you still need help figuring out how to use Real Techniques sponge, check out the video tutorial below.

As a final thought, the RT Miracle sponge can surely be a useful tool in your makeup bag.

Is First Aid Beauty Truly Cruelty-Free in 2021? (Definitive Guide)

a beautiful lady holding a cream with the question

Is First Aid Beauty cruelty-free as of 2021?

First Aid Beauty is among the hottest and most popular skincare brands on the market today.

Many people use their products for everything from acne and eczema to sensitive and dry skin.

But is it truly a cruelty-free beauty brand?

Below, we’ll look at their animal testing policies, Leaping Bunny certification statuses, and more to find out!

Is First Aid Beauty Cruelty-Free in 2021?

Back when they first launched, First Aid Beauty products were in fact 100% cruelty-free, which was just amazing.

Sadly, this skincare brand announced that they will sell their products in Mainland China in 2020, which calls their animal-friendly status into question.

Chinese laws have changed a lot in just the last year, and pre-market animal testing is no longer required.

However- and this is a pretty big “but,”-products can still be tested on animals as post-market monitoring in China.

In other words, if a customer complains about a First Aid product, Chinese law allows for 3rd party testing on animals of said product.

So, even though the FAB website states, that their products are not tested on animals, it is still arguable.

First Aid Beauty Animal Testing Policies

we love animals sign for cruelty-free makeup brand

When you enter the FAQ section of First Aid Beauty’s website you will see their statement about their products being cruelty-free.

“As a 100% Cruelty-Free company and proud, PETA-certified Beauty Without Bunnie’s partner, we do not conduct any testing of ingredients or finished products on animals and only work with business partners who comply with our policy.

PETA has verified that neither First Aid Beauty nor our ingredient suppliers or contract manufacturers conduct, commission, or pay for any tests on animals for ingredients, formulations, or finished products.”

This kind of information gives us mixed signals about their manufacturing and product characteristics. If they start selling their products in China, their products might be tested on animals post-market.

So even if they don’t test any of their products or their ingredients on animals, the countries where animal testing is required by law in certain cases might, if they export their products to those countries.

PETA, on the other hand, still considers it a cruelty-free brand and entirely certifies its products, featuring them with the PETA logo.

Founded in 2009, First AId Beauty’s mission was to help people with skin conditions and issues have a first aid kit for skin. Their products include effective ingredients that are allergy tested.

One of their best-selling products is the Ultra Repair Cream, which is made for dry and patchy skin. And the results many people get from this product are very effective.

With this said, many people started buying their products even more, as it was said to be a cruelty-free brand.

What Do They Say About it?

The First Aid Beuty always stated that they are cruelty-free and they do not tolerate the idea of having the ingredients tested on animals. It is, of course, an exciting fact.

Another thing worth mentioning, First Aid Beauty has added another piece of information on their FAQ section, about selling their products in China, but still being cruelty-free.

They say that they have been studying all the methods that will not require animal testing while selling their products in China. And with the help of PETA and many governing experts they succeeded.

PETA has also confirmed and supported FAB on this journey, stating the following:

“PETA is very pleased to have First Aid Beauty on our Cruelty-Free list, and we are happy to report that the brand will maintain its no animal test status as it expands to China. We’ve worked with the company to ensure that the products as manufactured and sold will not require tests on animals under Chinese government regulations.”

Post Market Animal Testing Is Still a Concern

There is a list of countries, where animal testing on skincare products is required by law. And any brand who is selling their products in those countries, in fact, becomes non-cruelty-free.

Post-market animal testing happens in China if the authorities require to make extra safety inspections on products. Animal testing is still classified as a safety testing system in many countries.

Post-market animal testing is something no one can manage or change unless the laws are withdrawn in those countries.

And even if the products are cruelty-free at the pre-market stage, that changes the moment a brand announces that they’ll be importing to those nations.

There’s simply no way to guarantee that First Aid Beauty will never, ever, ever be tested on animals once it hits the Chinese market.

First Aid Beauty’s Parent Company is NOT Cruelty-Free

While the whole China connection makes things incredibly confusing when determining First Aid’s cruelty-free statues, their parent company makes everything more cut-and-dry.

In 2018, FAB was acquired by the multinational company Procter & Gamble, which is NOT 100% cruelty-free.

To be fair, though, the major corporation is leading the fight to find alternatives and end animal testing in cosmetics.

P&G is even working on ways to end animal cruelty within the research sector, which is a HUGE deal, given that the brand manufacturers more than 25 medical products.

Unfortunately, current FDA laws demand animal testing when it comes to pharmaceuticals, so until that changes (or unless they leave that industry), P&G can’t fully qualify as a cruelty-free company.

However, like Burt’s Bees, we’re willing to cut First Aid Beauty a lot of slack, given how hard both they and their parent company works to end animal cruelty.

Is First Aid Beauty a Vegan-Friendly Brand?

a smiling lady holding a mirror while putting a first aid beauty vegan cream

Even though there is no specification on being a vegan-friendly brand on First Aid Beauty’s website, some of their product include animal-based ingredients such as beeswax, collagen, etc.

However, not all products include these ingredients, therefore many of their products are vegan-friendly. One of the vegan products they have is the Skin Rescue Daily Face Cream that works wonders for oily skin.

With that being said, if you want to use brands, whose all products are 100% vegan-friendly, there are other options in the market, below you will find my top 3 picks.

3 100% Cruelty-free Alternatives to First Aid Beauty (Makeup Brands)

As First Aid Beauty is best-known for their products that are gentle enough for very sensitive skin, we focused on finding 100% cruelty-free alternatives that fit those needs.

What’s the Difference Between Fiberglass vs. Acrylic Nails?

a lady putting an acrylic nails to the woman's nails

If you want to know the difference between fiberglass and acrylic nails, we’ve got your back!

Having long nails is something everybody wants to experience at some point in their lives.

Of course, growing them naturally takes time and there are chances that they will break; and that’s where the two most common manicure techniques come helpful: Fiberglass and Acrylic nails.

Below we will explain and compare everything about these two products, and see which one is best.

Fiberglass Nails vs Acrylic

fiberglass vs acrylic nails: a lady putting fiberglass nails to her hands

Fiberglass nails have been part of the salon industry for decades. Nevertheless, there are other more famous options in the market such as acrylic nails.

These two methods are different from each other in their application techniques. Regardless, both options give you long and beautiful nails, as well as strengthen them.

Before we get to our comparison, let’s learn a bit more about fiberglass nails, since they’re newer and less well-known than their acrylic cousins.

Introduction to Fiberglass Nails

Fingers with beautiful spring manicure over white background

What are fiberglass nails?

Fiberglass nails have become one of the trendiest artificial nail techniques on Instagram in the last couple of years. Many nail artists prefer this product as it looks natural, elegant, and opulent.

These types of nails are similar to silk wraps, as they are made with fiberglass or other slim and flexible fabric materials. They give strength to your nails, as well as provide beautiful length to them.

The fiberglass nails can be applied to give a natural coating to nails, or they can be combined with acrylics for extra coating and strength. They tend to be much stronger than acrylic nails.

This particular nail system is made to extend and strengthen the nails just like the silk wraps. The only difference between these two systems is that different materials are used.

Fiberglass Features

Having good-looking and long nails with fiberglass techniques requires a few materials. The fiberglass system works with two components, which are fiberglass fabric or strands and resin.

Fiberglass nails are thinner than the gel nail extensions such as acrylics. So if you are more into natural-looking nails, this can be the best choice for you.

However, it is also worth mentioning, that fiberglass nails might be more prone to breaking as they are more flexible and less durable in comparison with other nail enhancements.

Another great feature of fiberglass is that they are less damaging to the nails than gel nail extensions. It is why this system is more acceptable for different types of nails.

Fiberglass nail extensions might be more at a higher cost in nail salons due to their application process and material. The reason for that is because it might take few hours for nail technicians to finish both hands.

Depending on the nail salon, the prices of fiberglass nail extensions might range from $50 to $100, which is considerably higher than acrylic extensions.

As we have already seen above, there are only two components that make fiberglass extensions look beautiful and natural. To get the perfect look you will need fiberglass fabric and adhesive glue or resin.

Fiberglass fabric can be used if you want to only strengthen your nails without giving them any extra length. Whereas fiberglass strands are used to give artificial length to nails.

After applying the fabric or strands to your nails, the resin is added to them, to give more thickness to your nails.

Normally nail technicians apply a few coats of resin, after which the nails are ready to be filed down and buffed.

Whether you want to strengthen your nails or add length to them, after applying the fiberglass to your nails, you can paint them with nail polish or nail gels.

You can get any length, shape, or form of your nails with this amazing product.

The only thing here is that it will be difficult to get the best results at some, so looking for a professional nail technician will be your best choice.

Just like all nail enhancements, you can add colors to your nails, have beautiful designs, and nail art, depending on your preferences. There are so many creative ways you can have your nails done.

There are many nail salons that offer fiberglass nails to their customers. So you can check the best available salons near you for an appointment.

If you decided to go for fiberglass nail extension, keep in mind that the application process is time-consuming, and you might need touch-ups every now and then to get the perfect look.

Fiberglass vs Acrylic Nails

a lady getting a nail extension

Fiberglass nails and acrylics are two of the most popular manicure techniques that are used by many people in recent years. They both give your nails strength, extra length, and elegance.

The main difference between these two nail systems lies in their application techniques and products used. You can achieve your desired nail look at any nail salon near you that will serve you for weeks.

Comparison of Features

Acrylic nail system is more common at nail salons due to its durability. Many nail technicians know how to properly apply this product to your nails without causing any damage to your natural nails.

Due to their thick consistency, acrylic nails might look more unnatural, unlike fiberglass nails. They also have a specific odor, that fiberglass nails do not, making the application process more pleasant.

When you decide to remove the artificial nails, no matter acrylics or fiberglass, it is better to have it done by a professional. Trying to remove the products at home might damage your natural nails.

Why Should You Opt for Fiberglass Nails Instead of Your Usual Acrylic Nails?

Fiberglass nails are an excellent way to strengthen your nails. As they are thin, they will look more natural and give them an elegant appearance.

This method is also a great option for people with natural long nails, who have broken one or two. You can use fiberglass on the broken nail, without filing down all the nails to match the length of the broken nail.

Moreover, the fiberglass doesn’t have any smell, unlike acrylics, and it is unlikely that they will cause any allergies to your natural nails.

All that said, if you’re trying to do your own indie nails at home, acrylics may be the cheaper and easier option.

Fiberglass or acrylics, it is always important to do your research when trying new things.

Find the right specialist to have your nails done depending on the system you choose.

Kiehl’s Cosmetics: Are They Cruelty-Free and Vegan-Friendly in 2021?

a lady preparing to clean her face using Kiehl's cleanser: Is Kiehl's cruelty free?

Is Kiehl’s cruelty free?

Kiehl’s Cosmetics has a wide range of skincare products for various skin types.

This high-end skincare brand is famous for some of its products; but if you are someone who wants to use products that are cruelty-free, you might opt for other brands.

Keep reading to learn the brand’s animal testing policy, vegan-friendly status and more.

Is Kiehl’s Cruelty-Free and Vegan-Friendly?

a girl putting a Kiehl's foam cleanser on her hand while facing the mirror and wondering Is Kiehl's cruelty free?

Despite the brand’s statement to the contrary, Kiehl’s is NOT a 100% cruelty-free beauty brand.

Let’s take a look at part of their statement, then we’ll discuss why they don’t make our list of animal-friendly companies.

Kiehl’s Cosmetics states that they and their parent company L’Oreal are absolutely cruelty-free.

“Our consumers’ health and safety have always been an absolute priority for L’Oréal. As is the support of animal welfare.… A true pioneer, L’Oréal has been reconstructing human skin models in laboratories to elaborate in vitro safety tests since 1979, as an alternative to animals. In 1989, L’Oréal completely ceased testing its products on animals, thus 14 years before the regulation required so. Today, L’Oréal no longer tests its ingredients on animals and no longer tolerates any exception to this rule.

Sounds great so far, right? But wait, there’s more. See, right after stating that L’Oreal “no longer tolerates any exception to this rule,” they add:

Certain health authorities may nevertheless decide to conduct animal tests themselves for certain cosmetic products, as it is still the case in China. L’Oréal has been the most active company working alongside the Chinese authorities and scientists for over 10 years to have alternative testing methods recognized, and permit the cosmetic regulation to evolve towards a total and definite elimination of animal testing. Thanks to this, since 2014, certain products manufactured and sold in China like shampoo, body wash or make-up are no longer tested on animals.

So, “certain products” are no longer tested on animals in China, but not ALL products. Ergo, L’Oreal clearly does allow exceptions to their “no animal testing” rule.

FYI, if you keep hearing that China is going cruelty-free, that’s not really the case. We covered why in more detail in “Is Burt’s Bees Cruelty-Free?” So, check that out, or take a look at the video below.

Let’s take a closer look at that statement and break it apart a bit more.

Kiehl’s Animal Testing Policies

The parent company of Kiehl’s Beauty is a worldwide famous company L’Oreal. For years, it was obvious that this company was selling products that are tested on animals.

However, in recent years, they have made it clear that their approaches to animal welfare are safe and supportive. It is why they have come up with methods that will prevent animal testing in their products.

As they mention in their FAQ section, they have developed safer procedures for product tests that don’t involve animals. Moreover, they have a way to prevent animal testing in Mainland China as well.

Since 2014, L’Oreal has been working with scientists and authorities to find other solutions to animal testing in countries where it is required by law. But, they succeeded only in some of the product types.

…certain products manufactured and sold in China like shampoo, body wash or make-up are no longer tested on animals.”

It is, of course,  a great thing, in comparison to other companies that don’t take charge of post-market animal testing. However, skincare products are not yet included on that list, unfortunately.

This cosmetics company was founded in 1851. Coming a long way in the cosmetics industry, L’Oreal bought it in 2000. Selling various skincare products such as moisturizers, serums, oils, etc., this brand has become a staple for many people.

Along with their brand evolvement, they state that none of their products are tested on animals and are 100% cruelty-free. But the facts say the opposite.

Post-market tests on animals are still considered non-cruelty-free, therefore making all the brands selling their products in China non-cruelty-free.

Is Kiehl’s Certified by Cruelty-Free Organizations?

As much as their parent company talks being a true pioneer in animal welfare, Kiehl’s Cosmetics is not certified or approved by any organization such as PETALeaping Bunny, etc.

It is another fact, showing that this brand is not approved by organizations that are protecting animal rights.

Supplier Testing

Most of the time, such brands don’t share their complete animal testing policies publicly, so you need to pay close attention to the wording they use in their cruelty-free statement.

Basically, you want to look for phrases like “we do not test on animals, nor do we allow any of our supplies to do so on our behalf.

In other words, you want to see them clearly state that not only do they not test, but no component of their products are tested in animals, either.

Otherwise, what they’re really saying is “the final product that you buy in the store hasn’t been used on bunnies, but it’s entirely possible that the ingredients used to make it were.”|

As for Kiehl’s, there are no clear statements about their products not being tested anywhere their products are sold. This can confuse the consumers who are looking for cruelty-free brands.

It is not clear if Kiehl’s ingredients are tested on animals by suppliers or 3rd parties, or if they apply the same policies to them.

Plus, as we already stated, since Kiehl’s Cosmetics is sold in Mainland China, it only leaves us with the thought that their products can be tested on animals as it is mandatory in that country.

It is still a big concern in various countries, where animal testing policy is obligatory. And there many skincare brands that decide not to sell their products in such countries to prevent animal testing.

In the case of Kiehl’s Cosmetics, they at least state that they are finding ways for alternative methods, which gives us hope that one day they will become a 100% cruelty-free brand too.

Is Kiehl’s a Vegan-Friendly Brand?

ladies having their skincare routine

Some of their products are vegan, which means that their ingredients are not animal-based or animal-derived. However, it is not fair to say that they are vegan-friendly as they are not a cruelty-free brand.

If you want the brand to completely be considered vegan, the ingredients of their products must not be tested on animals or include any ingredients that are animal-derived.

It can also be confirmed, as they neither have any vegan-certified labels on their products, nor they are mentioned anywhere on the PETA website.

Even if some of their products do not include animal-derived ingredients, many of them do. So no, Kiehl’s is not a vegan-friendly brand.

3 100% Cruelty-Free Alternatives to Kiehl’s

If you want to replace the products of Kiehl’s Beauty with other products that are 100% cruelty-free and vegan-friendly, check out the list of brands I prepared for you below.

Since Kiehl’s is best known for its facial creams, cleansers, and serums, we’ll focus on those.

FYI, this segment includes affiliate links. Any purchases made through the links will give us a small commission at no extra charge to you.

#1 Gaffer & Child Dream Cream

If you want a good alternative to Kiehl’s popular “Ultra Facial Cream,” you’ll love Gaffer & Child Dream Cream.

It’s not only cruelty-free (the brand even partners with PETA), but it’s also vegan, non-GMO, made in the USA AND Fair Trade to boot!

Looking for an alternative to Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Vitamin C Serum? Try this one by The Organic Pharmacy.

It’s roughly the same price (actually, a few bucks cheaper), and uses only the best organic ingredients.

#3 Grown Alchemist Hand Cream: Vanilla & Orange Peel

Kiehl’s is pretty well-known for its super moisturizing hand creams, so let’s finish off our list with a cruelty-free alternative to those.

Right now, I’m pretty in love with Grown Alchemist Hand Cream: Vanilla & Orange Peel. Again, it’s roughly the same price as hand creams by Kiehl’s, but without the animal cruelty.

Not only does it smell delightful (think Creamsicle), but it’s loaded with nourishing natural ingredients, like rosehip and Camellia seed oils.

Final Thoughts

Living in a world where animal testing is a major concern, so it is necessary to have skincare brands that are 100% cruelty-free.

As much as we appreciate Kiehl’s efforts to make their brand a kinder and gentler one for animals, as long as they sell products in Mainland China, we just can’t back them.

Hopefully, they’ll find a way to prevent other countries from testing their products on animals (or pull out from those markets).

If that happens, L’Oreal products will earn the “cruelty-free” seal of approval.

And in the meantime, you are free to choose the best cruelty-free brands that support animal rights.

How to Wear White Eyeliner With Style for a Beautiful You

Close-up shot of beautiful eyes to wear a white eyeliner: how to wear white eyeliner?

Want to learn how to wear white eyeliner with style?

Having a unique and outstanding look is something everybody wants.

However, not everyone feels up to taking the risk of trying white liner, and that’s a shame!

Today we are going to talk about why it’s such a neat trend, and how to pull it off.

What is White Eyeliner Good for?

White eyeliner is an amazing way to highlight your gorgeous eyes and really make them shine, especially if you apply it to the outer corners of your eyes.

Unlike black eyeliner, the white one will pop up your eye look and give a larger appearance.

Using white liner will also liven up your eyes after a rough night. It can prevent showing hangovers or allergies by making your eyes look more awake.

Using white eyeliner is especially good for those who have a small eye shape. Having white inner corners will help you visually enlarge the size of your eyes.

If you want to make your eyes look larger and brighter, try to apply the liner on your waterline and inner corners of your eyes. This little method will completely change your makeup look.

Check this video to learn different ways to use white eyeliner.

How Do You Use White Eyeliner to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger?

These little tricks have been used for decades by famous makeup artists.

Using a white eye pencil will give you the best results in creating larger eyes. Start with applying a line on your waterline from corner to corner and blend it with a soft brush if it looks unnatural.

You can also apply a black liner on the outer part of your lower lash line. This way, you will make your eyes look incomparably bigger and brighter.

The best results for larger eyes can deliver white eyeliner pencils, such as the Urban Decay liner. It has such a soft and creamy formula so that the application will be very easy.

And if you want to elongate your eye shape, you can apply the liner out of your eye corner and bring it back to the waterline to add a touch of width.

Does White Eyeliner Make You Look Younger?

a red-haired lady wearing a white eyeliner

It might be intimidating for you to use a white liner at first. But once you try it, you will never get enough of it, as it has so many options to make you feel younger and more energetic.

However, choosing light and subtle white will give you the best outcome. Try not to overline or overapply the liner, be it a winged liner, a white smokey eye on the crease, or a simple white pencil liner on your waterline.

White eyeliner will help you get a more youthful and fresh look. Applying a liquid eyeliner along your upper lash line, not only will give you a different appearance but it will also make you look younger.

Applying white pencil eyeliner to your lower waterline will also give you a younger appearance, as it makes the whites of your eyes brighter, and they get visually bigger, wider, and appear younger.

Another great and useful trick is to use a white pencil on your brow bones and eye corners and blend it with a brush. It will uplift your eyes, make you more awake and give youthful features.

4 Steps on How to Wear White Eyeliner

white eyeliner set

There are so many ways to rock a white liner, not only for making your eyes look younger and bigger but also allowing you to look bold and out of the ordinary.

Unlike black eyeliners, white eyeliners give you so many options of looks. In this next part of the topic, we will see how you can apply white eyeliner in various ways.

1. White Cat-Eye

The steps of having a winged eyeliner are simple. However, not everyone gets the perfect cat-eye look from the first try.

Firstly choose a liquid liner of your choice, and apply a thin line above your upper lash line. Continue by extending the line from your eye corner, and bring the liner back to the corner to get the perfect shape.

Match your white eyeliner with your outfit or accentuate your entire look with an icy appearance. Here’s a how-to video:

2. On Your Lids

To get a more creamy and dreamy look that many makeup artists did for several celebrities, try your favorite eyeliner, eye pencil, or even eyeliner crayon in white. Apply the liner all over your lid and smudge it with a brush.

If you don’t want to cover your entire eyelid, apply the product only across your upper lash line, and it will give an illusion of covering the entire lid when your eyes are open.

3. Awaken Your Eyes

If you had a long night working on a computer or had a drink or two with your friends, it will result in red eyes the next morning. And as we all know, bright colors enhance everything.

If you simple shade your waterline with white eyeliner, your eyes will immediately look more awake and brighter, covering all the redness.

4. Improvise

White liners have so much potential for a more unique eye makeup look. Improvising and trying new things is always good.

Try to make waves with eyeliners on your lids, or just draw dots along your lash lines. Experimenting with white eyeliner is fun and can bring amazing results for photos and parties.

Trying something new is always scary, especially when it comes to makeup looks.

However, it is also fun to try new things and get the most of them.

Check more info in the video below.

Final Words

White eyeliner looks can be the next best thing this summer as they have so many advantages!

Be bold, and don’t be afraid to experiment, regardless of your skin tone or shape.

White liners make magic once you become skilled at their application.
