I started a brand new series on my channel on YouTube called Books on Looks, where I will be reviewing fashion, beauty and makeup books. I started this series to give my favorite books a place to live online and share my opinion on them. With so many books on the market, there’s always the question of what to spend your hard earned money on, and I hope this series will help you decide what to buy.
Makeup Makeovers by Robert Jones

Robert Jones’ Makeup Makeovers in 5, 10, 15 and 20 Minutes: Expert Secrets for Stunning Transformations, which primarily features variations of neutral looks with browns and natural eye colors. The book details about 47 different looks:
Neutral Looks (primarily brown and other natural colors): 30
Dark or Strong Lip with a Neutral Eye: 6
Jewel Tones (primarily blues and purples): 6
Smoky Eye Looks: 5
Though many of the techniques Jones uses are advanced, this book is great for both beginners as well as those looking to build their skills. Jones provides easy-to-follow step by step directions on everything from applying your foundation to putting the finishing touches on your lip. And since most of the looks feature browns, taupes and champagnes, they are, for the most part, fool proof so long as you follow the steps
Many makeup books spend at least 50% of their space explaining about tools, brushes and eyeshadow colors, but not Jones, who jumps right in with tutorials. Though some of the looks can be repetitive, you definitely get a lot for your money with this book. That being said, if you’re looking for a lot of jewel tones or smoky eyes, this book falls short with only 6 looks featuring green, blue or purple eyeshadow. So if you’re a risk taker, skip this book.

That looks like a fun book! I am definitely guilty of being safe when it comes to my make up. I need something to challenge me to try a bold lip or a different eye. This book looks like a good start for risk adverse me.

I think this is a good book to start with if you’re safe about makeup! There’s tons of neutral but interesting looks that can easily be transformed into more daring looks.
