I wanted someone to lay out the pros and cons of having a YouTube channel and making videos. However, I was sorely disappointed when I found there is no such blog, at least not in the first three pages of a Google search for “Benefits of YouTube for Fashion Blogs” or “Should I have a YouTube Channel?” Hopefully this post will help you decide if YouTube is a component you’d consider adding to your blog. If you don’t have a blog, this will hopefully help you, too.
Is can you handle seeing yourself on a computer screen?
It really is a weird feeling! I recorded my first ever video last night and found it quite bizarre to see myself on a screen. For years, I had been convinced that I hated my voice. In reality, it’s actually not that bad. I also found my skin did not look as bad as I see it in the mirror. This was actually quite the confidence booster for me.
Do you have time to edit or the desire to learn?
If the answer is no, you may want to consider the alternative to an informational tutorial and opt for the less refined “vlog” where YouTubers track their day to day life and post it on the internet.
Are you able to reconcile the lack of anonymity associated with YouTube?
In a blog, you can hide a blemish or a bad hair day. On YouTube, not so much. Also you may want to consider if you would be embarrassed if someone found your videos. Again, there’s no hiding so that potential supervisor will know it’s you.
Are you able to handle scrutiny?
Since YouTube is a more anonymous place as opposed to your personal blog, people are more willing to be critical and say potentially hurtful comments. Can you deal with this? If it happens, how much will it affect you?
These are all questions and topics at the heart of if you should start videoing or not. Sure, there’s other factors that go into it, some of which are similar to the insecurities of starting a blog. The question of will people like me? Will people read this blog?<
With all this being said, I spent some time last night creating my first ever hair and makeup tutorial. This is going to sound ridiculous, but I really admire women my age on YouTube who teach other women how to apply makeup. This is also a skill I’ve been interested in advancing since middle school and have always had a curiosity about makeup.

Oh you're so sweet! I feel like a big dork, though. Maybe one day I will not.
Court!
I liked this! I am clueless about makeup, and I picked up some good tips. Can't wait to see more.
